Answers to some of
the frequently asked questions:
What
is a retained search firm?
A retained firm works on an exclusive basis, project-by-project,
typically on senior level ($100,000+ compensation) executive searches.
The firm is paid via progress payments, much like a consultant.

What
is the difference between a retained search firm and a contingency
firm?
A contingency firm is paid only when a recruit is hired. Clients
who use contingency firms often contract several firms simultaneously
for one position, causing competition and confusion. Also, a contingency
recruiter focuses on identifying and presenting resumes, rather
than a more involved assessment and referencing process. Because
they are paid only upon hire and at a lower percentage, it is difficult
to provide a full range of services on a cost-effective basis. Contingency
recruiters often seek resumes of polished, competent individuals
to keep on file for the next opportunity.
